Laura Duksaitė-Iškauskienė | Managers are more courageous in taking charge of their careers

2025-01-16

Are you also thinking about a new career stage? I notice that there are a lot of people who think this way after the New Year, in January. This is due to several things.

Indeed, the first month of the turn of the year is the symbolic time that prompts us to consider whether I am where I should be. What new opportunities are available on the labour market.

Some managers contact us themselves. It is very important for us to know which managers in the market are open to a new job offer. Some, of course, we interview ourselves, asking if they would consider a career change.

But we are seeing a new trend: managers are increasingly taking responsibility for their careers into their own hands. They are contacting and informing us that they are considering a career change.

Whereas before, most of the time, managers wanted to be interviewed and invited because they said how it would look if I contacted them myself, it would look like I wasn’t doing very well, that I was looking for work. Now they are brave enough to approach me themselves.

This is a positive trend, showing that managers are taking the initiative.

What triggers change?

🔵Year marker. New promises, new goals. This applies not only to people, but also to organisations: e.g. this year, find the CFO, data analyst or sustainability manager we didn’t have.

🔵Completed studies. After completing a second degree, looking for a place to put the knowledge to good use. It’s true that our labour market does not welcome change – it’s not easy to make a radical change in our market.

🔵 Willingness to broaden your expertise. Few managers want to change jobs. More often than not, they want to grow their knowledge, e.g. if they used to be a brand manager, they want to be in charge of the whole marketing area.

🔵Conscious planning. After being in an organisation for a few cycles, after growing it for 5-7 years, you want a different industry, a different stage in the life of the organisation, a different area in which to grow. Infrequent job changes are welcome.
