What you need to know to hire executives in the German market was well presented on Thursday by our colleagues from Agilium. Highlights from the field of executive recruitment for those who missed the webinar:
- it is very important to clarify your own expectations of the candidate – to know who they will be working with, and the specific target audience for the service or product. This will help us to select the right candidates for the position.
- the issue of remuneration. The German market is concerned with rewards in the here and now, with less emphasis on future rewards, such as a share of future profits or incentives in the form of company shares. This is relevant for new businesses, which often offer a future reward option.
- insurance. An important motivator is social security (our equivalent of the Social Security). An aspect that seems to be taken for granted, but is overlooked.
- car. This motivational aspect should not be underestimated – it is relevant in the German market, especially given that the first hires are often in sales. This is a position that requires a lot of meetings and travel. A company car works better as a motivator than e.g. a certain amount of money spent on leasing a private car.
Thanks for the insights of Laura Palmieri, Rouven Ketzer, Rico Hägele and Dr Matthias Rode, who provided an overview of both the legal nuances and the regulatory environment, and introduced one particular region of Germany, Baden-Wurttemberg.
